Four pens, and every one is a different physical object rather than a colour swap. The numbers below are measured from the simulation, not written by hand โ mass, length and grip decide how a pen behaves, and every advantage is paid for somewhere else.
common
The one everybody had. Chewed cap optional.
uncommon
Light and sharp. Hits hard, but a stiff breeze moves it.
rare
Borrowed from your father's desk. Refuses to be moved.
epic
Absurdly long. Glides forever, turns like a bus.
A flick delivers a fixed impulse, so momentum is identical for every pen. What differs is the mass ratio at the moment of contact โ the speed handed to the pen you hit is2J / (m_you + m_them).
A lighter pen therefore shoves harder and reaches further. A heavier pen resists being shoved but travels less and hits softer. Impact and anchor are two ends of one lever, and no pen can buy both.
That is deliberate. Rarity here signals a stronger personality, not a stronger pen โ a legendary pen is more specialised, which also makes it more exploitable by someone who knows its weakness.
